Most people, including me, introduce ourselves through our professions. I will try to avoid that.Playing cricket on the streets of Karachi and later going home to read/collect books or spend time on the computer are some of my most cherished memories.Hoarding of old items is a common problem in my family. In me, the hoarding gene expressed itself from an early age through the collection of books, science magazines, and articles. Now this gene is reflected in the many useless pieces of tech items lying around me right now :)I grew up in a large family, which I believe is a strength of mine. And I have a strong desire to keep learning as long as I can and improve myself, bit by bit, essentially.

eVTOL Aircrafts and Batteries
Batteries and aircraft are not normally two words you hear together often. There is a good reason for this, and it's called Gravity.
Volocopter is one of the OG startups in Germany, that is making an electric vertical take off and landing aircraft for the masses.I was fortunate enough to work with some of the world's best minds in aerospace and battery tech.Together, we solved many challenging problems - Thermal runaway of passively cooled batteries, vibration behavior of massive aircraft equipment, and impact or crash behavior of batteries during drop scenarios.I feel truly honored to have contributed to or led on many of these interesting problems.Lightweight Cars, and Battery packs
Traditional cars are heavy. No shit! Electric cars are even heavier.
In the heart of Munich lies a small company who are enthusiastic about making cars lighter, and the whole process more sustainable.Sometimes the endeavor appears too idealistic, as composite materials are more expensive and the manufacturing processes behind them are not always scalable. But when I was working at Forward Engineering, I was often surprised by my innovative colleagues, who successfully made many cars lighter, through the clever use of the multi-material approach for all kinds of car systems - battery pack housings, body-in-whites, car body, etcCar crashes, or how to avoid them, composite materials in battery packs, material selection for different requirements, i learnt these and many skills there.Multi-physics material science
It is impossible to feed the human population without wheat and potatoes. Modern human civilization is impossible to build without concrete and steel.
There was no threat to German civilization when one of their leading Steel manufacturers started losing chunks of graphite electrodes in their electric furnaces. But it was still a threat to the bank balances of the shareholders.I was working in the central innovation and reaearch department of SGL Carbon, and we found out that the fracture strength of the electrodes was a culprit behind the near bankruptcy of the shareholders :)We achieved these results through a series of carefully designed material testing campaigns and mathematical modeling of the electric arc furnace phenomena (Coupled electric-thermal and mechanical simulations, to be exact)Satellite launching vehicles (legacy NASA technology)
Pakistan's space program is decades behind many countries. I am still grateful to it, though, as it introduced me to the difficulties of Rocket science and engineering.
We were trying to reproduce publicly available designs of legacy NASA technology. The technical challenges of extreme G-forces, mass constraints, and limitations due to work and the political culture of an organisation made me a better engineer. It made me realize the importance of understanding Physics and human nature.

Theater actor
After every artistic performance, i feel i have grown as a person. As a whole person. And during the performance, I forget everything else in life, including all the chatter in my brain.
This momentary respite and the feeling of growth are the reasons I have performed in various multilingual (Urdu and English, German needs to wait :)) theater projects.I have had the privilege to share the stage with many talented and lovely people. We have travelled across Europe to perform in multiple cities - Munich, Berlin, Amsterdam, Stuttgart, and Augsburg.

Building a science outreach organisation
Science always fascinated me. As a kid, I was reliant on scientific books, magazines, later blogs, and documentaries. As wonderful as these media are, there are multiple stages through which the scientific message reaches from the researchers/s to the masses.
This multi-step messaging system is inefficient, plagued by internal human politics. And it creates a divide among the masses, by appearing as a walled garden, that is only accessible to people with expensive and fancy degrees. So my entrepreneurship journey started with a science outreach organisation that reduced the steps between the scientific research and common folks.Essentially a poor man's version of TED talks :)We called it 15x4 Munich. The peculiar or poor choice of name came from the format of our events (4 talks of 15 minutes). It happened in Munich, while there were other chapters operating in many European cities. The concept originated in Kyiv, spread to Moscow, and found its way to Munich through the diverse research community here.Till now, we have organized more than 30 events. More than 2000 people have attended those events. And more than 100 speakers from a STEM background have shared their research and passions there. We have held events in the Deutsches Museum, Google, JetBrains, TUM, LMU, Stylight, and many other interesting locations in Munich.I am looking for a new team to carry this noble project forward. Event organizer and art production
From a theater performer, it was natural to enter the world of producer/organizer. As I already had that experience through 15x4 Munich (link).
The goal was to create a home (Munich) outside the home (Pakistan, India) for the desi community here. Through cultural events such as concerts, original movies, and creating exchange opportunities between the artistic communities of the countries. It turned out to be hell of a ride, but the lack of financial sustainability has closed this endeavor. The pleasure of meeting creative minds from the subcontinent and the experience of German bureaucracy of opening and running a company, has made it all worth it!
